High Five: Another Tigers’ catcher

Today’s High Five:
- Two weeks ago, Tigers fans wondered who would back up Dusty Ryan at catcher in 2009. Now, that’s a question for Toledo Mud Hens fans. After trading for Gerald Laird at the Winter Meetings, the Tigers are expected to announce that they’ve signed Matt Treanor to be his backup.
- Scot Shafer is out as U-M’s defensive coordinator. I’d elaborate, but this will get its own post a bit later.
- The Lions put WR Shaun McDonald on the team’s injured reserve list, ending McDonald’s season. That leaves Calvin Johnson as the only remaining member of Detroit’s opening day receiver group of Johnson, McDonald, Roy Williams and Mike Furrey. To replace McDonald, the Lions signed Travis Taylor, a 2000 first-round draft pick bust. This signing seems like a Christmas present from Martin Mayhew to Matt Millen.
- Transfer Laval Lucas-Perry will join U-M’s basketball team soon. He’s a former MI high school star: here’s a game story from 2006 featuring some now-familiar faces.
- Anyone worried about Antonio McDyess’ mental state after the Mitten’s psychoanalysis of the power forward can rest easy, according to Chris McCosky.
Today’s schedule:
- NBA: Washington at Detroit, 7:30pm
- College basketball: Citadel at Michigan State, 8pm
