High Five: 0-16 with a bang, baby!

Today’s High Five:

  • The Lions are officially 0-for the 2008 season, the second all-defeated team in NFL history and the first since the schedule was expanded to 16 games.
  • There’s plenty to talk about here, and we’ll do it soon, but let’s start simple for the High Five edition. First off, the Free Press reports the Lions have fired coach Rod Marinelli, and given Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand the full-time GM and president positions, respectively. So don’t hold your breath for Bill Parcells.
  • The good news from yesterday’s NFL action is that the Cowboys lost, keeping Dallas out of the playoffs and moving their picks higher in the NFL Draft — including the first-, third-, and sixth-round picks that the Cowboys traded to Detroit in the Roy Williams deal.
  • RB Kevin Smith, who committed a personal foul penalty that sealed the Lions’ fate against the Packers, is nonetheless emerging as one of the Lions’ leaders and cornerstones. He’s keeping his game gloves from Green Bay as a souvenir to remind himself what not to do. Also, Smith just missed a 1,000-yard rookie season, finishing with 976 yards on the ground.
  • Matt Millen may be gone, but his legacy is still with us. Not that I’m a conspiracy theorist, but this page is still online at the Lions’ official site.

Today’s schedule:

  • College basketball: North Carolina Central at Michigan, 7 pm
