Doubling up the High Five

Sorry I missed the High Five yesterday as I was traveling back home after the holidays. We’ll do a High Ten today instead, both to make up for yesterday and in honor of my dad’s thumb, which I nearly broke in a muffed attempt at an actual high five after Calvin Johnson’s touchdown on Sunday.
Let’s break them into categories.
The Capital One Bowl:
- This is the first of a series of preview posts from one of the Georgia blogs.
- In the Mitten’s bowl preview, I talked about the need for big games from Michigan State’s secondary and linebackers because of Georgia’s dual-threat offense. The News and Free Press must agree, because they’ve got features on Greg Jones and Otis Wiley, respectively.
- Steve Grinczel is on the lookout for bulletin board material, but hasn’t heard anything too inflammatory. There’s also bulletin board material from Georgia DL Corvey Irvin toward the bottom of the News story.
The Lions:
- The team is interviewing a lot of coaches. That’s a partial list: another name emerged today.
- Meanwhile, the search for another personnel expert seems not to be proceeding as quickly.
The Pistons:
- Rip Hamilton isn’t coming back to the Pistons’ lineup right away, giving Michael Curry more time to ponder moving one of his all-stars to the bench.
Winter Classic:
- Christy’s got a game thread posted at Winging It In Motown.
- The various lineup question marks for the game, from Chicago native Chris Chelios and Nick Lidstrom to the Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane — who thought he was seriously hurt in Tuesday’s warmup contest — should be on the ice.
- Proof that Chicago is getting excited about the game (and that the Blackhawks haven’t been too big of a deal for a while now): there’s a pre-game hockey primer in the Chicago Tribune.
College sports:
- MSU won its Big Ten opener today at Minnesota while U-M fell to Wisconsin. Here’s KJ’s fancy-stat conference preview, but State is starting to look pretty good regardless of what the stats say.
- Bonus-bonus 11th link: This link is the Mitten’s last mention of FB prospect and off-and-on U-M recruit William Campbell until he makes up his mind.
