High Five: NFL coaching carousel

Today’s High Five:
- Great update from SI’s Don Banks on this year’s NFL coaching carousel, specifically how Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo may not get a head coaching job, even though he’s been generally considered to be the top candidate. Banks also says the Titans’ Jim Schwartz would be a good fit in Detroit.
- Schwartz met with the Detroit media yesterday, which is nice both as an evaluation tool for Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand, and also because it allows to confirm who the Lions’ finalists are and learn a little about them. Today, it’s Miami secondary coach Todd Bowles’ turn.
- Richard Hamilton returns to the Pistons tonight, meaning it’s time for Michael Curry to deal with his three-guarded monster and decide who will come off the bench in the backcourt. But apparently he may start both Allen Iverson and Hamilton — it’ll be interesting to check the lineup tonight. If Rodney Stuckey stays at point guard, it’s hard to imagine either Hamilton or Iverson guarding a small forward.
- Just as Ian from Bless You Boys laments the Tigers’ few and non-glamorous relief options, the Tigers have invited a 26 year-old Taiwanese lefty to camp. I’m not sure if this is the solution we’ve been looking for, as the guy went 5-12 last year in China. (Granted, with a 3.34 ERA.) The signing does represent the latest proof that the Tigers are beefing up their presence in Asia.
- Saturday is a big day for college basketball reminisces: In Ann Arbor, Michigan is celebrating its 1989 national championship team, while in East Lansing, Michigan State is retiring Morris Peterson’s #42 jersey.
Today’s schedule:
- NBA: Charlotte at Detroit, 7:30pm (Fox Sports Detroit)
