High Five: A Zetterberg to grow old with

Today’s High Five:
- Henrik Zetterberg won’t be leaving Detroit any time soon. With his new 12-year contract, the Wings’ star center joins the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera as long-term staples of the Detroit sports scene.
- I don’t put much stock in most Pistons trade rumors. But when it’s ESPN’s Chad Ford — friend of Joe Dumars — who does the rumorizing, it makes to wonder if, in fact, the Pistons might make a play for Elton Brand.
- Lions WR Mike Furrey, however, is already gone. The Lions won’t formally release anyone until Feb. 9, but GM Martin Mayhew is apparently letting some of the guys know in advance so they can make plans.
- Warren Sapp comes to the astonishing conclusion that Rod Marinelli’s Lions teams weren’t as talented as those he coached in Tampa.
- The Oakland Press’ Dave Birkett is scooping everybody with his announcement that the Lions have hired George Yarno to coach the O-line. Detroit is also retaining two coaches from the Marinelli regima, RB coach Sam Gash and WR coach Shawn Jefferson.
Today’s schedule:
- College basketball: Michigan at Ohio State, 6:30pm (BTN)
- NBA: Detroit at Minnesota, 8pm (Fox Sports Detroits)
